Our Charity
No Further Charitable donations will be approved in 2012
In September 1989, the late George Bisson handed over the Quennevais Camp site (now Les Ormes) and the surrounding properties to a Foundation (The Bosdet Foundation), which had as its principal aim to help people in need in Jersey through the development of the Les Ormes leisure facility and the revenue of the property portfolio. All our chairty funds are generated by our sport and property products. The Foundation cannot give to off Island causes.
In 2011 The Foundation approved over £70,000 towards student loans for a range of courses that will help Jersey in the future. These were based on academic excellence, usefullness of the course to Jersey (such as teaching, finance related), school reports, and in some cases personal circumstances. The students have to be Jersey residents undertaking an undergraduate or similar course.
In 2012 students approved in 2011 will continue tor receive support subject to excellent first year exam and tutor reports. But no further student loans will be approved until a review of charitable funds available is made in June.
In 2011 the Foundation approved a large number of donations to local charity groups for amounts to a maximum of £5,000. These included Sanctuary House, Womans Refuge, Jersey NSPCC, JSAD, Parkinson's Jersey, Jersey Cheshire Home, Jersey Multiple Sclerosis, All Saints Church community work, Jersey Sea Cadets, Jersey Aquatic Club, Trinity Scouts.
There will be no further charitable donations in 2012 except for students already supported last year.
The Bosdet Foundation has committed £50,000 over two years to the start up of the new Palliative Care Consultant post in Jersey helping Jersey Cancer Relief. This post is being based at Jersey Hospice Care. After these two years it is hoped the post will be fully funded by the States.
The largest donation is a £500,000 commitment over 5 years to the redevelopment of our parish residential home, Masion St Brelade. The Bosdet Foundation was founded by a local life long resident who was very supportive of the home. With the whole Bosdet operation based in St Brelade the Foundation is very supportive of the home for the long term.
